Fire alarm systems are, as their name suggests an alarm system that is activated when heat, smoke, combustion gas or infra red and ultraviolet radiation from a fire is detected. They also relate to manually operated alarms that are designed to let people within the premises know of a fire. The size, layout and use of a premise will influence which system or combination of systems will be the most applicable for that particular case.
The main objectives of a fire alarm system are firstly to enable safe evacuation of the premises and secondly to alert those responsible for combating or controlling the fire. Fire alarm systems should only be installed by certified companies due to the nature of their use.
